Mercedes Unveils Four Murdered-Out Models To Celebrate 50 Years Of Speed
During its 49th year of existence, Mercedes-AMG had its most successful year ever, catering to its fans with more powerful variants of normal Mercedes cars and scooping up additional buyers with milder tunes denoted by the "43" after the model letter. In order to celebrate last year's sales frenzy as well as its 50th anniversary, the Tri-Star's high performance wing has just unveiled four special edition models based on the AMG GT C Roadster, C63 S Cabriolet, and C43 Coupe and Cabriolet.
All models come slathered in unique color schemes and are loaded with every available toy for their respective model designations. New on the AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50, which will be limited to 500 units worldwide (only 50 of those will make it to the US), is the special designo Graphite Grey Mango paint. That comes with black chrome accents slathered on the side skirt, front splitter, and on the trim strips guarding the air intakes of the Panamericana grille. The exterior surface of the cross-spoke AMG wheels compliment this with their own black chrome coloring. Inside, Black Exclusive Nappa leather stares down contrasting shades of Silver Pearl while the seats themselves are contorted into a diamond pattern by grey stitching.
The AMG Interior Night Package comes standard with the 50th anniversary roadster, loading up the insides with black steering wheel spokes, shift paddles, and door sill panels, all tied together by embroidered stitching on the AMG performance seats reading, "GT Edition 50." Performance specs are otherwise unchanged. Those seeking thrills a bit lower in the range may want to look towards the AMG C63 S Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition, although this special edition will be more rare than the AMG GT C Roadster with only 150 units being sold worldwide. Painted in designo Cashmere White Mango, this AMG contrasts its body color beautifully with the Deep Ocean Blue acoustically-insulated fabric soft top.
Deep Ocean Blue painted trim pieces, which include trim strips on both front and rear bumpers and trim elements on the wheel center caps, help maintain the contrasting theme while permeating the Crystal Grey-colored interior with top stitching and an analogue clock. A staggered rim setup completes the look with 19 inch wheels up front and 20s at the rear, both painted in titanium grey. The interior is also a treat to the eyes with Crystal Grey Nappa leather accented by diamond stitching in Deep Ocean Blue, which compliments the AMG Matte Silver Fiber Glass trim and special edition badging on the center console. A black-rimmed flat-bottomed steering wheel straight out of the AMG S63 Cabriolet maintains focus up front.
Meanwhile occupants are kept warm by Mercedes' AIRSCARF technology. As with the AMG GT C Roadster and the AMG C43 Coupe and Cabriolet, these visual changes don't impact performance metrics. Speaking of the AMG C43 twins, those get a color scheme similar to that of the AMG GT C Roadster with a diamond radiator grille featuring black pins in place of chrome. Receiving additional black paint are the trim strips on the front splitter, rear bumper, side skirts, trunk lid spoiler, and tailpipe. Matte black 19 inch wheels maintain consistency while high-sheen rim flanges ensure that there's a bit of contrast. The interior looks just as ready to be purchased by a celebrity of the metal rock era as the exterior thanks to the AMG Performance Studio Package.
Having that box ticked off means the rim of the performance steering wheel gets wrapped in Nappa leather and its flat bottom section gets colored in, you guessed it, black. Those looking for a chance to hop behind the wheel will need to wait until the summer when all four cars go on sale. To quell your appetite for now, buy a ticket to the 2017 Geneva Motor Show where all four models will be on display.
