The latest Brabus XLP 800 6x6 Adventure stretches and raises the G63, adding a pickup truck bed, more attitude than a high school class with a substitute teacher, and even more horsepower than AMG has ever pulled from its 4.0-liter V8.
Just like a German factory worker's day, the Brabus XLP 800 starts with a stretch. The W465 chassis is cut and then lengthened by 60.2 inches. Fitted with a new custom-built carbon fiber truck bed, the G Glass is now nearly 21.5 feet long.
The new frame is painted red, because it's awesome. The axles are painted the same shade, because you're going to want everything to match. Even the accents in the cab are red, which is giving this adventure beast some serious SEMA show vibes.
But unlike most of those builds, Brabus makes everything work. There are portal axles at every tire, raising the G-Truck and multiplying the engine's prodigious torque. The total ground clearance is now 18.6 inches, and the shocks and springs come from suspension experts KW. That includes six struts, which have adjustable damping accessible from within the cabin.
Brabus fender extensions make the XLP 800 even wider – wide enough that their lights can illuminate the running boards that probably won't make it any easier to climb inside. Fortunately, there are power steps beneath the running boards, and Brabus added a kit that lets the rear doors open wider so you can actually get in.
The 4.0-liter AMG V8 is tuned with new maps and a pair of new turbochargers that give more boost. Horsepower is up from 577 stock to no less than 788 in the XLP 800. Torque is up too, climbing from 627 lb-ft to 737. Spinning six tires is a lot of work even for that much engine, so it's not as fast as you might expect. Still, it can reach 62 mph from a standstill in 5.8 seconds, and go to a 130-mph limited top speed. Since this is a German model and Brabus is a manufacturer and not just a tuner, we can also tell you this beast should return 11.7 mpg combined. Ouch.
Brabus works over the cabin as well as the outside. It fits a new rear bulkhead with a heated window behind the seats to start. It also completely redoes the seats with Brabus "Dual Cube" quilting. The door panels, visors, and center strip of the headliner match the seats, and everything else is Dinamica microfiber.
Then there are the red accents. We said already the frame was red, but this XLP 800 Adventure has 200 pieces inside that are Rocket Red. From the switches to the speakers to the door lock pins, it's red all around. The steering wheel trim, along with some other not-red trim pieces, are carbon fiber.
Brabus builds the XLP 800 6x6 Adventure to order, and it can customize it to almost anything the buyer wants. You can also get armor, a matching boat, or a home on Brabus Island. The performance car company doesn't have a list price, but it did recently sell a last-gen XLP 900 Adventure for 1.45 million euro ($1.7 million).
