While it's not clear why the camouflaged prototype needed help, it surely is funny to see a V8-powered sport utility vehicle coming to its rescue. Based on the headlights being on, said prototype had power when it came to a screeching halt. Speaking of the headlights, the 2026 model features new headlights with a starry lighting signature. But out back, we can't see any significant revision whatsoever.
Even so, we do look forward to starry taillights for the real thing. From the next-generation CLA to the facelifted GLE, GLS, and internal combustion S-Class, many upcoming models have been spied boasting star graphics for the headlights and taillights.
Together with the look-at-me headlights, the updated lower front grille further indicates a different upper grille for the poor-selling EQS. When it comes to interior changes, the Stuttgart-based automaker is likely going to work its magic primarily on the infotainment system and the optional Hyperscreen setup.
Similar to the Superscreen of the E-Class, the Hyperscreen comprises a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen, and a passenger-side display for good measure. Adding some colorful ambient lighting to the mix results in a rather distracting interior, especially if you drive mostly after nightfall.
Mercedes last updated the liftback-bodied EQS in April 2024 for model year 2025. Back then, it received front-end styling inspired by the internal combustion S-Class, along with a larger battery, increased recuperation due to new regenerative braking software, and fancier seats for the rear passengers. With Mercedes-Benz AG looking forward to introducing next-gen electric architectures in the coming years, we wouldn't hold our breath for tremendous platform updates.
Hearsay suggests that EVA2 may get an 800-volt setup for the forthcoming refreshes of the EQS and EQE lines. The rumor mill also makes a case for new electric drive units, a new type of battery cell, disconnect for the 4MATIC dual-motor system, an upgraded AC onboard charger, and a two-speed gearbox for increased efficiency at high speeds.
Starting at $104,400 for the rear-drive 450+ version, the EQS Sedan can also be had with two electric motors for an extra 3,000 freedom eagles. The 450 4MATIC is joined by the punchier 580 4MATIC, whereas the AMG is advertised with 649 horsepower. Race Start, however, unleashes a mega 751 horsepower and 752 pound-feet (1,020 Newton-meters) of twist for a 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds.
While not as impressive as the Plaid three-motor setup of the Model S from Tesla, it's pretty good nonetheless. For model year 2025, the Mercedes-AMG EQS Sedan carries a starting price of $147,550 in the United States market.
