This W16 Mistral is a recent product of Bugatti's Sur Mesure program. It's an in-house customization program that lets customers pick truly unique colors and interiors, sometimes ones that haven't been developed or are effectively one-offs. Bugatti's managing director has previously said this of the program:
"The Sur Mesure program is truly limitless in the creative possibilities it offers to customers, creating a car that is an intimate, personalized and bespoke artwork. The service is also testament to the incredibly gifted and talented Bugatti team of designers, engineers and specialists. These are individuals operating at the very top of their craft, setting trends and defining new chapters in luxury, artistry and technology" —Bugatti Managing Director Hendrik Malinowski
The customer, in this case, was looking to build a car inspired by his daughter. Bugatti said in its press release that the owner and designers also looked at flowers and fashion for ideas, the former of which is quite obvious. The car is painted in a custom hue that, shockingly, is just called "Lavender," but was designed to shift from more blue to more purple depending on the light. The paint is carried over to the brake calipers. The lower section of the body has visible carbon fiber with a purple tint, which is quite dark and thus rather subtle.
Less subtle is the treatment to the underside of the wing. That surface was finished in white with hand painted flowers and the name of the daughter and the car: Caroline. This more bold design choice is at least tempered by the fact that it's really only visible if the wing is raised, or it flips forward to act as an air brake.
The interior continues the floral theme. The leather is a two-tone using white and dark purple hides. Bugatti's interior team also embroidered intricate flowers into the headrest, knee pads, and door panels. They're done in complementary blues and purples, and the door panels have petals that appear to have been blown away. Finally, the shifter with the "Dancing Elephant" features purple-tinted glass.
The W16 Mistral is the last run of Bugattis to use a quad-turbo W16 engine. The engine line originated in the Veyron, and was further developed throughout the Chiron era. In the Mistral, it makes 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. That power goes to all four wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Bugatti claims a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 273 mph. The base price was around $5 million, and any version that went through the Sur Mesure program surely cost much more.
