Earlier this month, German automaker Mercedes-Benz AG revealed the much-anticipated 2026 CLA. A coupe-styled compact sedan that punches above its weight in many respects, the all-new CLA will gain a shooting brake sibling in the second half of 2025.

Recently spied by the carparazzi with little in the way of camo wrap on the front and rear ends, the CLA Shooting Brake carries over the flush door handles and starry lights of its more compact brother. Currently testing in Sweden, the wagon shows a sloping roofline that continues into a relatively flat rear window.

Save for additional rear cargo space and legroom, the CLA Shooting Brake will be mostly unchanged inside. Visually similar to the sedan up to the B pillars, the wagon is very streamlined to aid with airflow. Expected to hit dealers in the first half of 2026, the CLA Shooting Brake will understandably come with a choice between electric and hybrid muscle.

This prototype is obviously electric, meaning that Mercedes-Benz AG may call it CLA Shooting Brake with EQ Technology. Its dino juice-drinking stablemate features a 27-horsepower electric motor, a dual-clutch transmission with eight forward ratios, and a 1.3-kWh battery pack. Although designed by Mercedes, the 1.5-liter turbo will be supplied by Chinese automaker Geely.

Why them? Considering that smart cars now come from China with Mercedes-Benz AG styling and Geely underpinnings, it should come as no surprise that Mercedes tasked Geely with producing the Miller plant.

Codenamed M252, the all-new engine is joined by a 48-volt electrical system that also runs the HVAC system. The most powerful version of the hybridized turbo inline-four lump generates 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet (300 Newton-meters) of torque at full chatter.

Clearly not a screamer, the internal combustion 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA is overshadowed by the full-electric 250+ and the dual-motor 350 4MATIC. Their peak numbers are 268 and 349 horsepower with 247 and 380 pound-feet (335 and 515 Newton-meters), respectively.

The CLA Shooting Brake could also gain a full-on AMG model, although not with internal combustion. Spied with an active spoiler in sedan guise, the forthcoming AMG CLA is certain to produce big numbers. While it's not clear if Mercedes can make a case for three motors, there is no denying that 800 volts are on the menu for the high-performance model.

Merc says the CLA with EQ Technology is capable of charging up to 325 kilometers (202 miles) in a mere 10 minutes. DC fast charging is rated at up to 320 kilowatts for both the rear-drive 250+ and the 350 4MATIC. With internal combustion, prospective customers have to choose between front- or all-wheel drive.

Unfortunately, the wagon is not coming to North America. Instead, the Stuttgart-based automaker will offer two crossovers on the all-new MMA platform of the CLA, those being the next GLA and roomier GLB.
